Lake Bled, Slovenia

The Canucks, Jeremy, Soupie & myself caught the bus to Lake Bled. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and the temperature very warm.

Upon our arrival in Lake Bled I was surprised, not sure why, how touristy this small town. We walked down towards the water, making our way to the castle direction.

The scenery was breathtaking, as beautiful as the picture on the postcard. Wow, what a lovely place!

We decided to walk up to the castle first, later taking a boat over to the island in the middle of the lake. The stair path zigged zagged up to the castle. The way it was designed,  with a landing every so often, levelling off, making it not so steep and difficult. The weather was super, sunny & hot!

The scenery on the way up of course was...beautiful. Once at the top we took our share of photographs of the view!  We all spoke on how wonderful it would be to live here!

We took a tour through the castle checking out the interior and history.

Of course there were great views over the town & valley! Must of been wonderful to live in a castle, provided you were the king or queen.

What a view !

We found a restaurant to have a drink, my favourite, Radler beer, grapefruit flavour. Sounds weird but it tastes so good, really refreshing on a hot day!

Catarinka from Germany was to be joining us before she headed out to visit relatives in Innsbruck.

A boat was found to take us over to the island, it needed a few more people so we had a short wait. We asked Alex, the oarman if he could drop us off halfway on lake side in order for us to walk back. That would be no problem as long as the weather didn't take a turn for the worse.

Heading to the island

The island in the middle of Lake Bled had a church and a lot of people went here to get married or  pull the rope to ring wishing bell. There was a couple having their wedding photographs taken.  When we arrived there was quite a line up to pull the rope for the bell.

As we headed back to the main shore the weather turned. We could not be dropped off as it was so windy, not really sure how the man had the strength to steer the boat! It was an ongoing battle! I was glad that we had not decided to paddle our own way over. Coming back in a small boat with this weather, I would of been more than a tad nervous!

What a gorgeous day, love Lake Bled!! All of us wanted to have a place here to live. I have seen photos of what it looked like in the winter, still a beautiful place all covered with snow!  We took the bus back to Ljubjlana, not wanting to leave Lake Bled!  It would be great to spend a few days here, there are many trails one can walk, hike on too.
